Commonwealth
Learning Scholarships 2005
Commonwealth Learning Scholarships
provide assistance to rural and isolated, low income and Indigenous full-time
students with financial support associated with their study in an undergraduate
degree program. The Scholarships are available to Australian citizens or
holders of Australian permanent humanitarian visas.
There are two types of Commonwealth Learning Scholarships (CLS):
1. Commonwealth Education Costs
Scholarship (CECS) – value $2,000 per year
2. Commonwealth Accommodation Scholarship (CAS) – value $4,000 per year
Commonwealth Education Costs Scholarships (CECS)
These scholarships will be exempt
for the purposes of the Social Security Act and thus income from these
scholarships will not be taken into account when applying the Personal Income
Test for Youth Allowance, Austudy, Abstudy, or the primary payment of students
receiving a Pensioner Education Supplement. Both are merit-based,
non-repayable and target students from low socio-economic backgrounds
The Commonwealth Education Costs Scholarships (CECS) and the Commonwealth Accommodation Scholarships (CAS) have been distributed to eligible higher education providers The Commonwealth has provided guidelines to the higher education providers for the allocation of these scholarships but the providers determine their own selection and offer processes.
The Commonwealth Learning Scholarships programme is
administered on behalf of the Australian Government by individual higher
education providers. The providers are responsible for conducting their own
application and selection procedures, in line with guidelines issued by the
Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST). Potential
applicants need to direct their enquiries on application procedures, deadlines,
etc to the higher education providers.
Check out each University's Web Site for details of
their CECS and CAS
